Boys Of Summer

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

David Armstrong is the eyes, ears and friend behind his latest exhibition where he remembers that summer as the zenith of a downtown party scene orbiting around the Mudd Club. Where his friends and himself were living at beaches and older friends places for days on end and the idea was to not work for as long as possible. He captures the highs (literally) and the low lows. 1979 was the year for the photographer that seems very specific in its cultural moment in Manhattan and generally characteristic of what it means to be young in a difficult landscape. The color photographs the 25-year-old took of his friends that summer in Provincetown tell that story. Get a taster of an interview with David Armstrong here at V Magazine and check out some photos after the jump.
