Garbage Gang Kids Revisited

Thursday, May 22, 2008

The “Unframed” event at Chelsea’s Charles Cowles Gallery, sponsored by the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA) and presented by Domino magazine, drew a number of collectors looking to buy hard-to-acquire signed works for a fraction of their retail values. Artists such as Chuck Webster, Lou Reed, and Donald Baechler, and Peter Gerakaris. Carlton DeWoody’s “Artist Pail Kids” was the highlight of the evening putting a spin on the classic eighties trading cards from Garbage Gang Kids into famous artists and gave them funny names (i.e., Cindy Furman, Candy Warhol).

They cornered the trading card market with these ideas. I’m happy to see the concept revisited on a large scale with Andy Warhol as the representation.
