She put it bluntly…. ‘In these hard times - dress up. Do it yourself!” In hand written words she continued with exactly how to do so including badges (slogan preferable), rugs, towels and blankets or metres of fabric to wind around your body. And this was just what she then delivered. Vivienne Westwood’s Gold Label Spring/Sumer Collection, teamed with all of the above, was with striped men’s boxers, mesh cardigans and the aforementioned beautiful fabric (in silk pastel stripes or deep red), slung over one shoulder: a DIY toga. Die hard Westwood fans were in awe. Westwood has kept her talents in fashion’s frontline all these years and its plain to see why. Paris fashion week keeps getting better and better! Martin Margiela showed his Womenswear Spring/Summer 09 collection yesterday and in his Twentieth Anniversary year he sure threw a party. Held in a deserted stadium-esque space and covered in black cotton, the show space became a huge, spooky theatre as the fabric came together at the entrance to the catwalk, pulling back wide enough for one model at a time to make her entrance. Keeping in theme with his previous bandage-covered-face signature styling, the models faces were either covered in nude cloth or they wore long red haired wigs in front of their faces.
Each look signified a collection from the last two decades of Margiela’s creations - the first was a signature cotton blouse, the second was a negative photograph of Margiela’s first ever jacket (spring/summer 1989), printed on a silk satin T-shirt dress, which the model held up off her body to show off. The third was a reproduction of the first jacket in white cotton, the fourth a plaster cast moulding of it - and on it went.
A huge finale to finish off the show with the entire Margiela team coming onstage after the models wearing his signature medical coats - and then an entire brass band appeared too, just as the ceiling erupted and opened with huge discs of silver confetti! With the internet spinning rumours that Margeila is getting ready to retire it is said that Rick Owens will be stepping into his shoes to take over?? And with that ending to his show, well only time will tell??

On Monday, while fashion journalists, buyers and glossy magazine editors are focused on getting to the next Paris fashion show on time, a style revolution will be under way on the Internet, an event that could change the way all of those front-row names do business in the future. International Herald Tribune gives us the full story on the most talked about movement in fashion today, and they’re not talking about the clothes!
Net-a-porter is teaming with the designer Alexander McQueen for a one-of-a-kind catwalk show that will give the Web site’s two million customers their own front row seat at a McQueen collection. Showing only eight looks from the designers Spring ‘09 Collection, viewers will be able to buy the outfits online that caught their eye, and they will be shipped out to them within the next 24 hours!
This could be the way Fashion Weeks turn in years to come? Easy, functional, do-it-in-your-PJ’s kinda thinking… but is that really what the whole week is about? I think not.

In the very elegant Salle Imperiale in the Hotel Westin on Rue de Castiglione, Balmian’s models looked like a cross between Madonna in her Eighties, lace gloved moment and today’s hipsters with the right amount of rock n roll attitude. Now five seasons in, Decarnin’s signature sex appeal is really getting into its stride and girls are lining up to get their hands on any piece of Balmain that they can! The next season will see the Balmain girl wearing military-style jackets smothered in studs and glittering embellishments. Whip it off to find an emerald sequin fitting mini dress. Paris Fashion Week was opened with a bang by a slick detailed and precise show put on by Garteh Pugh. Palais De Tokyo played home to the show with an industrial looking space and light filtering through the glass ceiling, even fluoresecent tubes on the ground. It was an unusually bright venue for a Gareth Pugh show but as the music was turned up, and the first model steeped out in the first of a series of perfectly articulated armour. Following with a strict monochrome palette, Pugh fascinated his crowd with his obsession with architecture and dramatic silhouettes. See some of the photos from the show after the jump! As collaborations are happening left, right and centre, heres one that doesn’t happen everyday… Johnson and Johnson teamed up with designer Alexandre Herchcovitch to create 10 different printed band aids, all of which have been previous prints within their collections, for the clumsy big kids. The box was given a re-vamp for the limited collection release and each contained five print variations all signed by Herchcovitch. Now your scrapped knees and sliced fingers can be as beautifully adorned as the rest of you.
