I was in Portland’s ‘Powell’s’ bookstore last week, which by the way- holey-cow!, waaay too many books to see in one sitting, each more beautiful than the last- I had to sit down half way through!, when my eyes stumbled across an art book from artist Will Barnet. Call me a novice art lover but I had not heard of Will Barnet before this day.

I immediately LOVED his work. The braveness with color and color combination, the almost- japanese-style simplicity, the confident lines and stories of subjects (apparently referencing his own personal history complete with images of his wife, his daughter and their family pets).

Will Barnet was also a key figure in the New York movement called ‘Indian Space Painting’, artists who based their abstract and semi-abstract work on Native American art which I thought was interesting.

So, I thought I would share some of his works.

  1. I too just discovered Will Barnet at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland two days ago, and am totally taken by his work.  I was searching for more images of his on the web, and came upon this lovely post.  Thank you!
