Street Photography
Sunday, June 1, 2008
So it now seems that just taking straight up pictures of well dressed people on the street isn’t enough for our ever demanding fashion inspiration needs. Apparently we now want a well shot photograph, fashionista or no fashionista, with great colour consideration and a beautiful composition is essential. Basically, we want a photo that is of the same standard of fashion magazine editorials but with a fallen apon look that is coincidental and fits together like bread and butter. Heres a toast to the best looking street shots from the best people behind the camera- some recent photos taken by our favourites after the jump! (more…)
Hedi Slimane MUSAC
Thursday, May 8, 2008
This time last year Hedi Slimane was invited by MUSAC to portray with his camera the 18th edition of the major musical event. For the four days of July during which thousands of young people from all over the world concentrated on the shores of the Mediterranean to attend their annual date with music, Slimane pursued with his camera in hand to document his own beats in an aesthetic that only he can achieve. Now, almost a year later, the reflection of that work is presented in a project that, through an installation in Leon’s museum space, and a publication, puts the French creator’s aesthetic universe into perspective.
’Rock Diary’ represents the printed part of the project conceived by Hedi Slimane for MUSAC. Designed by the artist himself, the publication consists of three books: the first one contains the images Slimane captured during his four day stay in Benicàssim, which focus on the relationships that take place between music celebrities such as The Horrors, Amy Winehouse and The Klaxons not to mention their audiences and most importantly-their fans. The second is a round up of what Hedi has been studying for the last decade- how artists and iconic figures in the industry have influenced the younger spectators. And finally the third provides a platform for the opinions of people such as Vince Aletti — American music journalist and photography critic for The New Yorker. This collectors item is a must have for Slimane fans!!

In New York yesterday evening, the Metropolitan Museum hosted one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the fashion calendar: the annual Costume Institute Gala, aka the Met Ball. Celebrities such as Julia Roberts , George Clooney, Victoria Beckham, and David Bowie flocked through the halls, which were outfitted for the occasion with larger than life Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman statues. The most talk about couple there, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were adorned in custom made Diane Von Furstenberg dresses which wowed on lookers! Cut outs, splits all-over gold sequins were flashed. What do you think?

Dame Vivienne Westwood
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
After forty years on the fashion stage, Vivienne Westwood still knows how to pull in the crowds. An excited audience packed into the atrium of the Design Museum on Shad Thames last Friday evening to hear fashion’s grand dame present her impassioned Manifesto: Active Resistance to Propaganda.
With Peaches Geldof taking the role of Alice in Wonderland and Westwood herself as the narrator, the one-hour session saw the designer encouraging the audience to “question everything”, via a fantastical script referencing some of the world’s greatest creatives and thinkers, from Aristotle to Picasso.
With her push behing the idea of the text to be that humanity should stop being intent on “the latest thing” and search for something deeper she said “ We’ve all got to wear something, I suppose. So my advice would be to buy quality. Choose well. I think there’s a certain status in seeing someone wearing the same thing over and over again.” Nice x
