Profile: Daniel Askill
Thursday, July 17, 2008
One of the most in demand directors right now is Daniel Askill. With his already extensive and impressive CV, which included collaborations with Dior and Alexander McQueen, as well as musical notaries Phoenix, UNKLE, Placebo and German dance music duo Digitalism, Askill caused the fashion pack to sit up and take notice when he paired up with Paris based designer Michelle Jank for her Australian Fashion Week Show in April with short film, ‘Suspending Disbelief’.
But despite all these successful adventures of these early collaborations it was Askill’s personal and most innovative project to date, a short film titled ‘ We Have Decided Not To Die ‘ that has made the biggest impact on Askill’s career. Winning The Public Jury Prize at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand Festival in France.
He also worked alongside designer Hedi Slimane with some of Dior’s hottest projects where he was teamed with Jude Law to create the Dior Homme fragrance commercial which was shot from the outside of a helicopter! and directed Air Fance’s TV commercial.
He is said to be quiet about his current agendas but it is said that Askill is to be joining forces with his two brothers, Jordy and Lorin, to produce their first feature film…..

Van She Boys - ‘Changes’
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
To follow up on the alternate smash of a first single Strangers, the next official release will be the swingin’ future vintage that is Changes. With its sexy bass lines and infectious guitar laden melodies, the boy’s deliver another sure classic just the way we expect it. Changes is a snapshot of candid late night tales of what the Van She boys get up to while on tour and is a perfect soundtrack to the reminiscing of nights gone by, beautifully put together by Kasia Werstak. The track is full of typical Van She fervor, laying out indications of the past & respectful nod-of-the-head to the future with the band’s next youth-anthem, which will come accompanied by some very special remixes.
Also, the boys have just released their very own mixtape full of tracks that have influenced the album in some way up for download here.

Colin Henderson
Monday, May 19, 2008
23 year old designer Colin Henderson describes his work as “ruggish”. Maybe because his bold, modern and tribal-inspired design may remind you of a magic carpet? Having studied illustration at Brighton University and now in London, Henderson creates multi-coloured, ethnic- and textile- informed designs, and whether they’re hand-drawn, digitally illustrated or cut-and-paste, the results are breathtaking. The Aztec look has been popular with a lot of designers as of late, but Henderson has taken his colourful structures to the bigger circle. He has also created one-off prints and designs for clothing, books and music videos. Check out a brief chat Dazed Digital had with him here. Check out some of his graphics after the jump..

Diving Into Chanel
Sunday, May 18, 2008
Karl Lagerfeld’s inspiration for the latest Chanel Cruise Collection came from Brian Jones. The Rolling Stone who died infamously in a swimming pool was the reason the show was viewed around a lavishly decorated pool set in Miami last night. In a collection dominated by sleek black trouser suits, pleated shorts and metallic blazers, Lagerfeld evoked a sophisticated Sixties siren with just the right amount of rock chick sass.
A sumptous feather trimmed dress, perfect for cocktails on the terrace, took the audience straight back to the swingin’ era of karls hey! days…..? right? ”I don’t remember the Sixties,” he told WWD with his signature candidness. “I was there, but I don’t remember.”
Waterfalls, synchronized swimmers and life saver rings made up the pool side splendor. Have a look at some of the cute lil pieces after the jump!
