Look Book

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Fashion greats have always taken to the street for their inspiration, and we are seeing more and more people take their own interpretation of ’streets’ styles in their own hands. The most recent is that of a newly found site called Note Book, which is again taking style from their own streets around the globe and semi proffessional fashion editorials all together on one inspirational site. Im really impressed by the aesthetic of this site I love its layout and clean lines, the hype button is sweet too!

Have a look at the full site here.

Linlee Allen Profile

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Street photography and fashion is a hugely influential phenomenon, and one of its best exponents is Linlee Allen who is also an influential fashion journalist. I always enjoy reading her opinions and work, her site which collates a great collection of street shots is one of my daily checks.

Linlee is originally from Australia, where she started to take photos at parties in order to get them published in local magazines. They loved them and asked her to add some text to accompany her photos which she did, and ended up working as a photo journalist. She left Australia at the age of 21, heading for New York where she found herself running out of money…..so in order to fix that Linlee brought a laptop and started researching websites that she could write for on her travels that could in turn fund her travelling experiences! One site in particular brought two of her stories as they really liked the way she wrote and offered her a job in Paris with their new project fashion.net, in which she ended up staying for 3 years.

With that under her belt she then visited her home, Australia, where she worked as a Daily News Editor for the company who produce Australian Fashion Week. Within a year they decided to start a cable fashion TV show which Linlee hosted.

But then she got bored…… she found herself in Paris freelancing, and met Sarah from Colette who offered her a job at the store. After one year she was working the in their press offices and travelling with Colette internationally as their PR ‘know who’ of the company.

About a year ago, Linlee emailed a director in LA to ask for an interview, but as he was already coming to Paris for an exhibition he was working on they met there….and they fell in love! She has just moved to LA to start a new life with him there where she is currently working for Style.com and V Magazine as their LA correspondent and was recently named the west coast editor of Paper Magazine. She also contributes to new york magazine and men.style.com and if that wasn’t enough to her resume…. she is hoping to publish her semi-autobiography book about life in Paris and LA.

We have compiled some of the best shots, from her site linleeloves, from her archives. Have a look at the fashion, the knowledge and the best.

Thanks Linlee x

Street Photography

Sunday, June 1, 2008

So it now seems that just taking straight up pictures of well dressed people on the street isn’t enough for our ever demanding fashion inspiration needs. Apparently we now want a well shot photograph, fashionista or no fashionista, with great colour consideration and a beautiful composition is essential. Basically, we want a photo that is of the same standard of fashion magazine editorials but with a fallen apon look that is coincidental and fits together like bread and butter. Heres a toast to the best looking street shots from the best people behind the camera- some recent photos taken by our favourites after the jump! (more…)

Kim Ellery

Thursday, May 8, 2008

Designer Kim Ellery wears her sunglasses at night. Well, at least her models do. Ellery styled her S/S 2008 show at the Art Gallery of New South Wales with Ray-Ban Clubmasters. With gold chain adornments these are sunglasses for fashionistas tired of the Wayfarer invasion. We all know that the Malcolm X- favourite frames are on the down so will these chain have the chain reaction??

The Met’s Costume Institute Gala

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

In New York yesterday evening, the Metropolitan Museum hosted one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the fashion calendar: the annual Costume Institute Gala, aka the Met Ball. Celebrities such as Julia Roberts , George Clooney, Victoria Beckham, and David Bowie flocked through the halls, which were outfitted for the occasion with larger than life Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman statues. The most talk about couple there, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were adorned in custom made Diane Von Furstenberg dresses which wowed on lookers! Cut outs, splits all-over gold sequins were flashed. What do you think?
