A month ago, I was invited to take my designing skills (er?) to the lovely team at NIKEiD Bespoke Studio at 21 Mercer, NYC, to create my very own Air Force 1′s. I have always thought of the Air Force 1 as a classic sneaker, a sneaker style that is perfect for everyone, even the not-so-sporty, and looks good with any wardrobe. I was warned that I should go into my meeting with a clear idea of what I wanted. As soon as I entered the design rooms I understood why! Walls and tables and drawers full of color, textures, fabrics, materials, shoes, rivets, laces and more… oh oh.. “Remember what you wanted”. Ok. I would like to “punk up” my Air Force 1 please. Meaning; soft, buttery, black leather upper, khaki suede lining and detailing, brushed metal eyelets and a heavy textured detailing in black to accent the shoe. Nice.
