There is something really fantastic about finding out what makes a brand (and its designers) tick, where the roots of their inspirations lie and how that is then feed through their visual channels and manifested in their designs. Opening up a whole other side to their brand it can, perhaps, allow for an even further appreciation…

I’ve always admired Rolla’s way of celebrating the icons, images and tunes – each of them evident in their denim pieces. Most notably, their chosen images from iconic Australian photographer Roger Scott – the man who took his lens into the thick, hot, golden days of Australian summers through the 50s-70s, capturing the time, the energy and the culture.

The wonderful team behind Rolla’s exclusively shared with Anyonegirl what it is about Scotts images that really resonates with them and their brand, and also picked out their favourite images, each one bursting with that Rolla’s essence…

As an iconic figure and artist in Australia, what do you think Roger Scott means to Australia nowadays?

Roger Scott represents a picture of real Australia as opposed to the more well known cliches. We are grateful for artists like himself who show a side of Australia that others don’t – this is always relevant.

And as a major influence on Rolla’s, what does Roger Scott mean to you and Rolla’s as a brand?

His work directly influences Rolla’s as it as a visual of the things we are trying to articulate or that we remember, growing up in Australia. We love how he captured real moments and it’s not too polished – his imagery is beautiful and gritty all at once, a balance we also try to have in our collections. We also love sharing the photos alongside our collections as it’s a more direct way to communicate what we are referencing and shows a side to Australia that people abroad never see. We enjoy seeing people as inspired by his work as we are.
