Trust these guys to come up with a fresh and innovative way to show off their latest season Spring/Summer 09. Japanese art and fashion label Cosmic Wonder by Yukinori Maeda decided that the runway was the old way, and opted for a pop up office set containing piles of books and magazines that were blank inside with black and white photocopied covers, boxes of files that read “Business Business Business” and models that made the motions of typing and passing papers to each other, conscious that there is nothing to what they’re doing. All of this purposely dull atomosphere gave the collection room to shine in a clean and crisp office space, the juicy pastels, light gold metallics and pale greys and blues were excecuted in a very Cosmic Wonder way. Releasing September 29th, it’s not the first time KAWS has had something to offer for the girls, think back to that Married to the Mob Bikini. This time, the iconic NY based artist has teamed up with Marc Jacobs, to celebrate 10 years of the designers brand with this Ballet Flat. Limited to just 150 pairs worldwide, the shoes, featuring that signatire graphic from Kaws, will be available at Paris’ colette, and KAWS Original Fake store in Tokyo exclusively. (more…)
While Kate Moss might be single again, it’s not her relationship with The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince thats making all the headlines, it is her former high profile relationship that was the inspiration behind this piece of work. Created by Moss during her time with Pete Dohertys it is soon to be auctioned off and is expected to fetch 40,000 pounds.
Each month Max Fish holds the work of different artists in their most-of-the-time-a-bar space, and this month sees a collaboration of artists that are not usually artists at all! ‘Now I Remember’ is a group of skateboarders and graffiti artists, each of which were armed with a camera phone and instructed to record their daily doings… from hanging with friends, life on the road, and anything that they passed which they found worthy. The show which opened last week and runs until mid October showcases a collage installation from the likes of Jerry Hsu, Todd Jordan, Neckface, Tino Rizo, Spanky, JR, Aron, Curtis, and The Craze Crew. The fast paced, implusive manner in which these photos have been taken is a portrayal not only of these peoples lives but of a younger minded society that exsists now with reflection of a life unrestricted from fear.

From September 17th until January the MMK Museum fur Moderne Kunst Frankfurt will be the home to around 130 paintings, sculptures and videos of a major retrospective from Tokyo’s pop artist and Louis Vuitton collaborator, Murakami. Some call his work ‘New Pop Art’ or ‘Tokyo Pop’, but the man himself likes to call it ‘Super Flat’ as described in his book ‘The Meaning of the Nonsense of the Meaning’ (2000). University Of Arts graduate Kumiko Watari is the creative blood behind new t-shirt label ‘migh-T’. Pronounced ‘My-Tee’ or ‘Mighty’ (as in mighty strong), the line specialises in hand printed T-shirts and T-shirt dresses featuring kaleidoscope prints, flowers and trolls, silly monsters and polka dots all on the most softest cotton around. Her inspiration is said to be ‘Mysterious fortune tellers and zodiac palm readings’, these tees are sure to be a popular summer choice so visit her website here for more info!
London College of Fashion’s Art Gallery will play host to a new exhibition, Spin. As part of the London Design Week the exhibition will start tomorrow and run until October 3rd. Featuring iconic album artworks that are hand picked by University of the Arts alumni, GQ editor Dylan Jones, and The Horrors’ Faris Rotter and designer Peter Saville. Celebrating the art of the record cover and the relationship that has been prominent between music and art for so many years.
Some covers to look out for are Chemical Brothers ‘Surrender’ with original art work by Kate Gibbs and Everything But The Girl’s “Walking Wounded” by FORM.
“Between the Fifties and Eighties, before style magazines, MTV and the internet, the record cover was the primary visual communication between young people around the world,” says Saville, who famously designed artwork for Joy Division and New Order.

Edo Bertogolio came to New York in 1976 as a young film student looking for …anything. He left the art crazed city in 1990 as a celebrated artist and staff photographer for Interview Magazine. He was in the ‘right’ group along with artists, musicians, writers and whatever else was surrounding Andy Warhol’s Factory. With a serious drug addiction that he kept alive by selling everything he owned, he managed to make exception for his two chests full of photographs and negatives of past lovers and friends, some of whom did not survive the AIDS and OD epidemic of that time.
After fleeing his situation to Italy for fifteen years, he decided to come back and face the city that stole his friends and lovers and reconnect them to his photographs. In doing so he has created a documentary film, Face Addict. Based on his journey back to NYC, the film is confessional and at times dark. A piece of art history made of a remarkable time. Out this week, Dazed Digital talks to Edo Betogolio about his latest work.
