I swear this woman can do no wrong… Celeste e Verde (Sky Blue and Green) is the name of the makeup collection inspired by Antonioni’s 1964 film “Red Desert” and created by one of my favourite and most conceptually-brilliant females in the world Maryam Nassir Zedeh, alongside makeup artist Ozzy Salvatierra and independent filmmaker Alexa Karolinski.

A visual and audible feast, the short film created for the capsule collection, in collaboration with MAKE Cosmetics, is said to “reflect a woman and her style in life: a life that feels spiritual, artful and authentic.” The palette consists of a colourful mix of contemporary Californian pastels (powdery-blues, bronzes and buttery-yellows), bright primary-colours and matte seaside-blues, all of which feel nostalgic, fresh and natural.

Shot in Zadeh’s hometown of Los Angeles, it features artist and industrial designer Ana Kras wearing a series of vivid, playful and deliberate makeup looks as she wanders through the garden (I love the sound of her shoes clip-cloping), spits out the pips from a fresh tangerine, splashes water on her face and, at one point, paints gold onto her skin with a paintbrush. It’s sensual, voyeuristic, and very charming.

As someone who very rarely applies any makeup at all, I don’t feel an urgent need to apply blue eye shadow to my eyelids just yet, but I do feel a definite urge to embrace colour, be brave with it, and most importantly find out where the hell they got that marble pear from…
