Lee Mathews ‘Untitled, W2016’

As Lee Mathews continues to change as a living, breathing creature, collections have both remained the same and are evolving in new and beautiful ways. ‘Untitled W2016’ is a demonstration of this evolution…

L.M. still believes in monochrome dressing, and this season revolves around a simplified palette of black, parchment, khaki, grey and a pop of red. Tones of beige appear across trousers, sweaters and coats in parchment, oatmeal and cinnamon; allowing for ease in layering.

The simplicity that comes from her designs also remain key; this season silhouettes are clean, uncomplicated and imbue a languid elegance. A substantial V-neck cotton shirt with exaggerated sleeves is refined yet carries her signature principle of ease. Elongated tunics shroud the body, slender but mesmeric.

Tactile, luxurious textiles also remain essential to the brand’s DNA; wool and cashmere is sourced from Italy, the crisp cotton poplin from Japan and France, and woven scarves are hand-loomed in India. These fabrics are chosen for their personality; the natural crinkle of cotton cut into long-sleeved tunics, the soft drape of sand-washed silks on culottes, and the palpable touch of embroidered silk cottons worked into trapeze-shaped dresses…
