Dame Vivienne Westwood: the latest lady to grace the cover of The Gentlewoman, and rightfully so. Having contributed to the art of the fashion industry for over forty years, and without being lured in by the excessive frills and unethical concepts, has stayed true to herself – as both a woman and a brand.

Nowadays known as the Queen of punk, Westwood first came to public notice when she made clothes for Malcolm McLaren’s boutique on King’s Road. It was their collaboration and ability to connect the worlds of fashion and music that shaped the 70s punk scene in the UK – dominated by McLaren’s band, the Sex Pistols – who also wore Westwood’s designs when they performed. Deeply inspired by the shock-value of punk, Westwood is also widely known and admired for her dedication to political activism.

As a pirate, a mother, a leader and an artist, Vivienne Westwood, with her muse-able ideas and practices, is every bit worth celebrating.
