With April just on the horizon the Huntington Regional Film Commission is kicking into high gear for what Chris Lusher, 2010 AFF Chair says “Is looking to be the most exciting and cutting edge Appalachian Film Festival yet”. Submissions are due postmarked no later than March 1, 2010.

The Appalachian Film Festival is celebrating its 7th year of focusing on films and scripts produced exclusively in the 13 Appalachian States of the US. Cash awards and a Blenko “Appy” are given to the winners of the Script, Feature, Documentary, Short, Micro, and Young Film Maker categories.

Things get under way with screenings at Marshall University from with screenings at Marshall University from on April 9th.

The following week, April 16th from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm, the festival will show films at the Huntington Museum of Art, 2033 McCoy Road, Huntington, WV. Admission will benefit the Museum and Hospice of Huntington. During the event, shorts and micro selections will be shown and voted on by all in attendance to select the “People’s Choice” Award.

According to Chris Lusher, “All the big guns get pulled” on April 23rd and 24th at the historic Keith Albee Performing Arts Center 925 Fourth Avenue, Huntington, WV with all-day runs of the “Appy” finalists.

Friday, April 23, 2010 at 8:00PM Appalachian Film Festival Special guest artist, Jacob Young, will be showing his new film “The Object : The Umin and the Thummin” as well participating in a Filmmaker’s Workshop at 9:00AM Saturday morning sponsored by the West Virginia Film Office.

After the awards gala Saturday evening the Festival will host a special screening of Harmony Korines award winning latest film, “Trash Humpers” Chris Lusher ads, “This will definitely be an event that will have the town talking and the festival that might put Huntington in Hollywood’s crosshairs.”

  1. The dates for 'Trash Humpers' and the Jacob Young film have been switched. We got 'Humpers' on Friday the 23rd and then Jacobs film Saturday after the awards gala. Big thanks to ANYONE,GIRL.
