The Rodeo: Where the Marlborough Man in every boy hangs out on the weekend, and where Betty Scott Molloy loves to take pictures. Having recently attended The National Rodeo Finals in Waikato, she says, “I’ve always been fascinated with the rodeo and the whole rodeo culture. I find it insane to watch.” Her images are cinematic, her subjects charged with testosterone. It’s New Zealand country infused with American charm.

The New Zealand Rodeo Cowboy Association states the sport as being the most thrilling and exciting in the country. Where real-life cowboys are the backbone of the sport. Not only do they ‘Ride Bulls’, ‘Buck Out Broncs’, ‘Throw Steers’, ‘Run Barrels’ and ‘Catch with a Rope’, they ‘Drive the Night’, ‘Fly the Skies’, and ‘Cross the Strait’ in the pursuit of prize money, trophies and national titles. This pursuit will take them from Kaitaia to Bluff, and from New Plymouth to Hastings. Yee ha.
