And we’re back! Six weeks in the Bolivian desert and we have arrived home. Back to the creature comforts, an inbox full of good news, a pile of washing of clothes I’m not sure I ever want to see again, and some impatient memory cards and rolls of film just waiting to be unearthed….. more on all that later…

The new JUNGLE BOOK collection from Welcome Companions was one of these things in my inbox I wanted to talk about straight away. Designer Laurel Consuelo Broughton of Welcome Companions has an exclusive collaboration with the quirky and adorable filmmaker Miranda July coming out this December.

But first of all, this month, Welcome Companions’ new collection ‘The Jungle Book’ sees a ten-piece selection of bags inspired by the paintings of famed French artist, Henri Rousseau. Peach envelope-shaped handbags, bright orange circular clutches, and the greenest of green banana leaf-inspired wallets. You can be sure that nothing will be standard or ‘inside the square’ with this designer. These accessories are made for the girls who love breaking the rules, crave a splash of colour in their wardrobes, and lean towards wearing pieces that can tell a good story.

We were lucky enough to talk to Welcome Companions designer, Laurel Consuelo Broughton…

———-

Anyonegirl: What inspired ‘The Jungle Book’ collection?

Laurel: Famed French artist Henri Rousseau’s Jungle paintings.

Anyonegirl: Which is your favourite piece?

Laurel: I love the Tiger Eye bag… and the Banana Leaf wallet.

Anyonegirl: What kind of girl are you designing for?

Laurel: Hip girls who want / need a dose of fun in their (sometimes serious) wardrobes; they embrace the idea of integrating that sense of fun via their accessories.

Anyonegirl: For someone with such great style, what are you personally wearing with the Jungle Book bags?

Laurel: Everything! The leaves go with all types of style – that’s the wonderful thing about nature and these designs.

Anyonegirl: Can you give us a few extra hints about the upcoming “CLASSICS” collaboration with artist Miranda July?

Laurel: We are both super-excited about it and can’t wait for it to debut. The “CLASSICS” collection will comprise of accessories including shoulder bags, satchels, clutches and totes. Among the designs will be a specific, limited-edition shoulder-bag named the “Miranda” in addition to a series of split-color way options conceptualised by myself and Miranda July.
