Microgreens are a delicious and nutritious addition to any meal, either as a main ingredient or beautiful garnish. They’re super easy to grow, even in winter, and along with the delight they add to the daily dish, they also add some beautiful green to one’s kitchen space. Indeed, if you don’t have a garden, this is one way you can still grow your own food.

What are the most nutritious seeds of all?

According to recent research at the University of Maryland, the most nutritious seeds are red cabbage, daikon radish, coriander and amaranth.

What are the easiest to grow?

Radish, mustard, fenugreek and cress

In a nutshell how do you grow micro greens?

Use seed raising or fine potting mix.
Choose shallow containers with drainage.
Sprinkle plenty of seeds over surface of mix and finely sprinkle more potting mix on top.
Water with a fine sprinkler, and be sure to water from the bottom also.

What are your 5 tips for success?

Choose easy growing crops to begin with; experiment with tricky seeds after you’ve had some initial success and are a convert.

Buy seeds in volume.

Water regularly, preferably from the bottom—but don’t leave their ‘feet’ standing in water.

They need light but don’t have to have sunlight.

What is the life cycle from putting seeds down to harvest?

From 10 to 30 days—there are many factors affecting this. Cut stalk and leaves when they are about 5 cms high. Enjoy!
