“The most famous unknown artist in the world,” is what her lover, John Lennon called her. Japanese artist, musician, and activist Yoko Ono is one of the most charming female icons. Someone you feel compelled to listen to, to observe, and to learn from.

It’s funny how often a name can shape a person. The name “Yoko” means “ocean-child.” The idea of the ocean; the physical connection between lands and with the ability to be both calm and dangerous, it seems fitting that for such a big-scale thinker, for someone with such an open heart, to be named after the sea.

As a young Japanese female traveling to a country – where at that time could have been a risky adventure, to push and guide the form of art and expression, and to then marry one of the world’s leading musicians takes an abundance of hope and personality. Yoko has encapsulated the ocean in every element – constant, expansive, and with a powerful presence.

Monday’s muse is Yoko Ono. Lover, mother, and ocean-child.
