Based on the 80s’ video game Pole Position, Sandra Backlund’s Spring 09 collection is entitled Pool Position. When we think of the oh so common commentary of the blending of Fashion and Art, the best reference lies in designers such as Chalayan and Backlund who’s creations take on their conceptual form but allow for a real sense of wearability. Chloe Spring 09 Collection
Tuesday, October 7, 2008
After their red hot year through the nineties, Chloe was determined to bring back the essential ingredients that have been lost on the last few years, and create a season that has that usual Chloe girl who would once spare no expense to get hold of Chloé’s signature sexy-girly things, trophy bags, and shoes doing just that.
Hannah MacGibbon, the 38-year-old blond British designer who assisted Phoebe Philo from 1997, created scallop-edge coats, rounded-shoulder blouses, and high-waisted flared shorts, ruffle-necklined dresses and jumpsuits with an eighties kind of gathering in the thigh area, which certainly had a spring freshness about them which was just the right ingredient. I love this collection for its femininity, is cute and naughty, and how are those shoes!

Junya Watanabe
Monday, October 6, 2008
Played out in a romantic, African-inspired adventure, Junya Watanabe took the animal to the markets with her Spring/Summer 2009 collection ‘Make do and Mend’. Balancing enormous headdresses of dried flowers tied with gingham or broderie anglais swatches, the girls were drenched in charming African prints of red, green, blue and white. Introducing a folky look with pinafore dresses worn over rolled up denim jeans and long skirts worn low on the hips (to show a flash of leopard print G-string), with the prints bursting out as frilled, asymmetric hemlines. A feast of spring colours and patterns.

Hussein Chalayan Spring/Summer 09
Sunday, October 5, 2008
Know for his conceptual bold lines and use of shape Hussein Chalayan threw us another visual wonder. Famous for always putting on a ’show’ rather than a fashion show, Chalayan delivered just that with laser lights and a rotational runway and a window of glasses which was played by four hands throughout the show giving off a haunting sound.
This season saw a bright print similar to that of a wet road with reflecting lights zig zaging up it, contrasted with form-fitting rubber dresses, bold stripes all worn with a flash of neon yellow shades or high veiled headpieces (courtesy of hat man Noel Stewart). With a blur of grey and dash of red, five models appeared in solid dresses whose backs were made into irregular horns while the lights above them rotated eerily and the wind machines grew louder to resemble traffic noise when all of a sudden an almighty crash! All the glasses smashed at once and the catwalk went dark. Hussein Chalayan at his finest.

Chanel Spring/Summer 09
Saturday, October 4, 2008
Women stared in such awe at the girls spilling out of the re created Chanel store at the top of the runway at their Spring/Summer 09 show yesterday in Paris. As the models skipped out of the store past the uniformed male doorman and into the street named Chanel, they held a certain persona that only a Chanel wearing girl can feel. They do it best, no fresh lines or styling but a string of classics that we love to love. The ever loved tweed jackets, twin sets and white blouses were teamed with a CC logo-ed guitar, long stringed beads and small pink Chanel bags.
