Patti Smith: Camera Solo will be the first museum exhibition of her photography in the United States. The exhibition will include seventy photographs, one multi-media installation and one video work. Also on view will be a number of objects depicted in the photographs along with a selection of original Polaroids.

The pioneering artist, musician, and poet, Patti Smith has made her mark on the American cultural landscape throughout her 40-year career, from her earliest explorations of artistic expression with friend and vanguard photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in the 1960s and 70s to her profound influence on the nascent punk rock scene in the late 1970s and 80s.

Patti Smith: Camera Solo will be on view at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT from October 21, 2011 – February 19, 2012.

  1. uhh, this was almost a year ago. That said, went and enjoyed. Was a little underwhelmed. All the photos were small prints ( I forget now but 5×7 or 4×6) with same framing throughout. Only a few photos really made me look more than once. Just wondering if this is a case of “celebrity”

  2. hey RXMAN2, thanks for your comment! With AnyOneGirl, I am trying to get away from the most recent and most hyped and most new in news vibe that most hype website follow. It is unimportant to me the time in which the exhibition was seen, im am more interested in the celebration of what happened.

Sorry you didnt enjoy the photographs. To me the images are more than just an image, they are stories, and Patti tells stories so well. They are a snapshot of something bigger and I think that is why I want to celebrate her as a poet, an artist and a story teller on AnyOneGirl.

    All the best!
