Perhaps I’m bias, but the west really is the best. Offering backyards, 60s and 70s-built houses filled with natural light, fast access to the coast and some of the city’s best produce markets, it is not surprising then that more and more people are moving ‘out west’.
Surrounded by Oratia’s orchards and nestled up against Titirangi’s native bush, the quiet little suburb of Glen Eden plays host to the home of jeweller Bella and all-round funny man Pawel. After months of being away, Bella and Pawel have returned home for a fresh start. Their home is a combination of cherished belongings (those ones that you can never let go of), new finds and good bargains. It feels refined but cosy, calm but productive. It’s a house for eating-in together, planting seeds together, hanging out in the kitchen together and basking in the glorious, glorious sunlight together.
With (not quite) floor-to-ceiling windows grazing the walls, situated perfectly above the world’s best orange couch, a salt lamp basks in striped sun rays from the blinds and the doughy couches beg for further lounging. Bella has her studio perched neatly in one of the sun-drenched corners – a table scattered with gems and drawings…. it is work-live perfection. And just to top it all off, there’s a pretty cute fire place that has with no doubt been witness to many late night vinos and afternoon naps…
